21 [2008]

A fascinating film whose title is the card game of the same name known to all casino players who like table games – 21 or Blackjack. The film tells the story of a professor of higher mathematics at the University of Massachusetts named Mickey Rosa, who in the past was a professional gambler and decided to assemble his team to beat the casino. Five talented students from his course were chosen. Each has a different motive: idle interest, adrenaline or the chance to make some money.

Ben Campbell is a mathematical genius who was accepted to Harvard early. But the cost of tuition is simply unaffordable, which means he desperately needs a big win. The professor’s formula allows him to calculate his cards and place his bets at the right moment, so that he can always stay in the black. And all is well and good, but only the casino’s owner can win all the time…  So how do you win without attracting the attention of the entire security service?

The film is based on true events and will excite even those who are not fans of Blackjack.

The Card Counter [2021]

A gambling thriller starring Oscar Isaac. The actor managed not just to play the role well, but to make the scenes with him so appealing that it’s impossible to look away. His character seems to be woven with a nobility and grandeur that is infused with cold-bloodedness. And in poker, that’s incredibly important!

The picture tells about the determination and quite interesting way of William (the protagonist) to the World Series and the big money. For him, it’s not just a lust for money and vanity, but also an opportunity to start a new chapter of his life by hiding old secrets. But fate has drawn him into a game where something more important than money is at stake.

Runner Runner [2013]

Richie First is an aspiring young man who grew up in a poor family and has always dreamed of getting a good education. He manages to get into Prieston on his own, but now he has to pay his own tuition, which costs a lot of money. Richie decides to earn money in online poker, and at one point, in full confidence of winning, bet all his money in Va-bank. Losing a big sum he decides to find out who set him up, travelling to Costa Rica to meet casino owner Ivan Block. He in turn offers the guy a new job that will allow him not only to recover the loss, but also to earn a lot more. Ritchie immediately accepts the offer, but he has no idea what lies ahead…

Molly’s Game [2017]

Do you like films based on true events? Then set aside an evening to watch Molly’s Game. The protagonist of the film is Molly Bloom, a young and ambitious person with the grip of a wolf from Wall Street. The girl was a professional athlete who made every effort to get to the Olympics. But fate is a strange thing and not all dreams come true.

Fortunately, she did not give up, but redirected her persistence in another direction and proved herself in business. However, it turned out to be not quite legal, or should I say underground, but it was very successful. It was a closed club for poker fans, which quickly gained momentum and attracted the attention of the most influential people, who were willing to lose millions for the sake of fun.

In this way, Molly Bloom was nicknamed the Queen of Poker and her wealth rose to become one of the richest women in the United States. But along with her success, she also made an enemy, both within the FBI and the Mafia. Will she stay afloat? You will find out after watching the film.

The Gambler [2014]

Jim Bennett (Mark Wahlberg) is a loser writer and literature professor who turns into a casino gambler at night. As it turns out, he is unlucky not only at writing books but also at playing cards. As in an underground casino he lost all his money.

The desire to play takes over the professor and he borrows money from local gangsters, just not to tell his wealthy family about the problems with money and casino games. The film is reminiscent in some respects of the film of the same name released in 1974, which is also often listed as one of the best gambling movies for GamStop customers. Although the film has many similar plot twists, they are very different stories about different people and a completely different relationship with gambling.

Step by step, the professor ruins his life by gambling, getting into debt, quarrelling with his family and even breaking university rules. By about the middle of the movie, it may seem like a psychological drama, but suddenly from the middle it takes a different turn and turns into a thrillingly adventurous picture!
